Sadio Mane, born the 10th day of April, 1992 in Sedhiou, Senegal. Mane grew up in a small village known as Bambali located deep within Southern Senegal. His parents who were in need had way more kids than they were able to care for and so Mane was left to stay with his Uncle.

He played street football, but he could not attend school as the family could not afford to send his son to school. He played football on the dirt streets of his small village each morning when it was time to get up, and also at night when the sun set.

The thing that really sparked his desire to be a professional footballer was watching his country’s Senegal National Team play in the World Cup, and get into the quarterfinals, and even beating world champions France at the stage of group play, even though they were playing at the World Cup for only the second time. Mane was able to take his football seriously. His parents initially weren’t keen but they had different plans for their son, and it did not include football however Mane was determined to do nothing more. They decided to help Mane by selling their farm’s produce to help fund Mane to Generation Foot, a football academy located in Dakar.
